Tasting La Palma
Saborea La Palma is the project led by the Sociedad de Promoción Económica de La Palma (SODEPAL S.A.U.), a public company dependent on the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, for the revaluation and positioning of La Palma's gastronomy in regional, national and international markets. Under the brand launched by Turespaña in 2010, with the knowledge, support and notoriety of a brand like Saborea España, Saborea La Palma seeks to enhance the value of the island's gastronomy through various action plans, which begin by bringing together everything that makes up a gastronomic experience on the Isla Bonita. With this programme, Sodepal will try to excite through gastronomy, discover and rediscover flavours and sensations to visitors and locals, and take the culinary proposals, loaded with a legacy and history that make it unique, to the highest levels of the world scene in the gastronomic sector.

La Palma wines
The first vines are believed to have arrived on La Palma around 1505, at the hands of the conquerors and later colonisers of the island, who, in order to feel at home in the new land where they intended to put down roots, brought the crops and varieties that formed part of their lives from their places of origin. The varied origins of these, as well as the isolation to which La Palma was subjected in times gone by, gave rise to a wealth of varieties unequalled in other areas. Ancestral, pre-phylloxera varieties, from old vines, with ungrafted vines on volcanic soils, grown at different altitudes, from 200 to 1,400 metres above sea level, in an Atlantic climate influenced by the trade winds. With the beginning of banana cultivation in the coastal areas of the island in the mid-1950s, many vineyards were converted into banana plantations. It was with the creation of the "LA PALMA" Designation of Origin that the island's wine sector underwent an important transformation; vineyards and varieties were recovered, new plantations were planted, the number of wineries increased and the wine began to be known outside the island thanks to the important prizes obtained in national and international competitions.
